Responsive Collaboration- Theme of the Project
Phobia's or 'Fears'
After discussing with my team, different themes were thrown around and we came up with different ideas for what the cards could be about. This was before phobias were mentioned, we all thought this could be a good topic for kids as it could teach them not to be afraid of their fears and to find out interesting things about them to maybe change their mind.
We also decided 'phobia' might be too tough of a word for young children so 'fears' will be used instead as it is more relatable for them. Research into this topic, I found the top 25 most common phobias list. This placed; spiders, snakes, heights, crowds and dogs in the top 5 most common.
One thing we decided, was that we wouldn't have time to do more than 5 cards as we only have a few weeks to complete this project. Looking through the rules, it did not specify an amount, only that they must look like a set, the bear from the logo must play a role and that they must have a collectors element.
Armour
This was suggested by one of my team members, that we could do armour stickers so as the child learns about the fears, they earn armour stickers as to protect them from being afraid of this fear from now on. It would help the children to learn not to fear and be brave about scary subjects like spiders.
Facts
On the back of all of the cards, they hold facts and figures about the subject in question. For this we can research different animals and interesting points about them and how they can be a positive creature, not something scary for the child.
As we just had a week off, It has been difficult to contact our team to keep up with what the ideas are but I have been researching about Snakes and looking into the topic more.
Here I was putting everything we were talking about doing on paper, this was so I didn't get lost in the process. It was also so I could look at everything we were going to do and see which path was best.
Here I wanted to start sketching different ways of drawing snakes as to show how we could go about drawing them to look friendly and could appeal to children. We will have to mention that they can be dangerous so dont touch them but they wont harm you unless threatened like most animals. This was also to look at colours and different shapes and sizes that also could be an option.
One of the girls has been looking more at spiders and the other about cats, but as cats aren't one of the top 25, I dont know if this will be changed to dogs or another animals children tend to be more scared of. This week when we meet up we will be able to discuss a proper plan and where to go from here.
